The Company

In 1972, Behn Cervantes, a distinguished thespian, established the UP Repertory Company as an answer to the University’s need for a responsive performing group. Because of the deteriorating social conditions prevalent during the Martial Law period, the company established productions that mirrored the lives of the Filipino masses.  This led to the creation of UP Rep’s main advocacy: Repleksyon ng Pangangailangn ng Nakararami, or RPN.  Through four decades, the UP Repertory Company has continued to produce plays and musicals that uphold and propagate RPN.

The Company has continually striven to train its members in all aspects of theater.  Members of UP Rep are exposed to the technical and artistic components of theater, making them well-rounded and complete.  As a result, the members of UP Rep are very creative, highly opinionated, works with grace under pressure, and very passionate with their craft.  UP Rep alumni find considerable success in the field of theater, as well as in other fields, most notably in mass media and business.  The Company has produced talents of great renown, such as Rory Quintos, Ces Quesada, Jon Santos, Ching Arellano, Kata Innocencio, Blaise Gacoscos, Joi Barrios, Eugene Domingo, Stella Canete, Bibeth Orteza, Enrico Santos, and Angeli Bayani are just some of them.

The UP Repertory Company currently is a University Performing Group in theater (UPG), and to date, the only student-theater organization given such a title in the UP system.

One this is for certain, whether they’re performing in the middle of a rally, for a farming community, inside a classroom, or in the huge enclave of the UP Theater, you can be sure of a great performance, brought to you by people who give it their all, all the time.

UP Repertory Company is now on its 37th year.
